I went to buy a new CENTURY BATTERY for my car today from the wholesale distributer here (who also sells them direct to the public) and they said their only payment method was eftpos or credit card and if by credit card I would have to pay extra. No cheques and no more cash acceptable.
So as I did not have an EFTPOS card, I was forced to go to Westpac Bank to get one to buy my new battery! When at the bank, the teller I dealt with told me she was at a bank meeting in February where they were told by about mid-next year all payment by cheques will be terminated here in NZ.
Evangelist Barry Smith used to say, (correctly, in my opinion), “When cash goes, so does all your privacy and freedom!”
Exciting times!
