This is the final straw for many landlords today – when a tribunal, in this case the Tenancy Tribunal, (and further upheld by the District and High Courts as well) can outrageously disregard and overrule a perfectly legitimate legal commercial contract – one can say we are now living in a full Marxist or Fascist police state. If they can do this to residential landlords, then why not commercial landlords, and if commercial landlords, then why not agricultural leases, and indeed all other commercial legal contracts as well!
I was speaking to three separate landlords today, with one having a son that owns 22 rental houses in New Plymouth. All have now decided that they simply have had a guts full of bad tenants and oppressive government red tape and intrusion and are selling their rentals forth with.
PS. Some landlords have already appealed against these outrageous evil Tenancy Tribunal decisions to the District Court unsuccessfully, then appealed that decision to the High Court, and lost there as well – which all means these leases and tenancy agreements are now not worth the paper they are written on, and increasingly tenants are becoming aware that this is the case and are not complying with them at all.
So inevitably, one does not have to be a rocket scientist to foresee that soon there will be no rentals for anyone!
